GLOD to be BFFs (´◡`❁)

Wow these past couple weeks have been a whirlwind…

I had quite the feud with my drag sister, Ambrosia. <— Click that link if you missed it.

I’ve never been part of such a ridiculous marketing gimmick totally serious fight before. After I posted that shocking exposé about Ambrosia, we went back and forth online riffing on this same stupid joke with bitter jabs at one another. Everyone was excited to see us face off in a lipsync battle at Gorgeous Legends of Drag (GLOD for short). Lots of people were weighing in (or if they weren’t I just made up fake tweets to make it look like they did). The whole affair was almost… too vicious to post about on my dainty blog…

Luckily it wasn’t! Here’s most of the beef conveniently laid out in a carousel (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧

This was the most fun I’ve ever had leading up to a show. It didn’t go viral by any means, but I could tell there were a few people who really enjoyed it.

Drag is oversaturated right now. There are 5 different shows every weekend, and a lot of them feel pretty similar. For a while it felt like I was supposed to just fit the mold and do what was expected. My whole perspective has shifted the past few months. I realized if I’m not having fun, what’s the point of doing any of this? I think that mindset is present at Trevi too.

I live far from Fairfield, so I had only been there once before. I’m a big fan of what I’ve seen from the regulars online though. Their open stage, Wacky Wednesday, has such a wide variety of performers. Even from glimpses I see on Instagram stories, it’s obvious the venue is encouraging, creative, and passionate. GLOD is a fun and fresh take on the usual drag show format. It’s still a competition and a lip sync, but it doesn’t take itself so seriously. The fun homage to 80’s wrestling culture does a great job setting a tone for the show. Ryder Die is a powerhouse MC, rapstress, and dancer.

I was so excited to be part of it. Ambrosia drove, so I was able to get shwasted. I just had fun shaking and shimmying around for the crowd. Was I an amazing dancer? No! I lost the battle by quite a considerable amount, tehe. However, I was an entertaining and confident dancer. I did something that I thought wasn’t my forte, and I had fun doing it. Sometimes success is about winning, but that night it was about having fun, meeting new people, and seeing Frankie Cyanide wear head to toe purple. Oh, and getting some incredible pictures! There was a photographer, Marco Distella, who took some shots of us on a piano. I’ll put those up on the site soon (probably).

Next show is Mx. Toxic this Saturday at 9. That one’s going to be a lot more somber. I’m genuinely nervous about it in a way I haven’t been in a long time. Hope you can make it. If not, I’ll tell you about it on here later. xoxo
